About the author

The author does not use his name; he fears being unjust to the night and overshadowing it. These are reflections from his journey with the night. He does not concern himself with being read or liked. He has no other presence on the internet except for two books and this blog. He knows that everything is transient, that there are not many things to hold onto in this world. He often thinks about death but is not detached from life. He is deeply connected to life. Much of his life has been spent serving humanity, learning, teaching, reading, and writing. Even for the sake of knowledge, he fears falling into the trap of boasting about these things. The more he learns, the better he understands how little he knows. He knows he has a long way to go. In the past and now, he has no affiliation with any group, political party, organization, or belief group. His belief system absolutely does not allow such an affiliation. He is influenced by many in his world of thought:

  • Arthur Schopenhauer
  • Charles Darwin
  • Richard Dawkins
  • Friedrich Nietzsche
  • Sigmund Freud
  • Anna Freud
  • Erich Fromm
  • Melanie Klein
  • Irvin D. Yalom
  • Gautama Buddha
  • Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i Rûmî
  • Yunus Emre
  • Şems-i Tebrizî
  • Muhammed İkbal
  • Hallâc-ı Mansûr
  • Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
  • Albert Camus
  • Fyodor Dostoyevski

  • Zygmunt Bauman
  • Jean-Paul Sartre
  • Yaşar Nuri Öztürk
  • Annemarie Schimmel
  • Paul Tillich
  • Roger Penrose
  • Stephen Hawking
  • Richard Feynman

His interests include mathematics, astrophysics, psychology, psychoanalysis, linguistics, studies of the Holy Quran, Western, Eastern, and Islamic philosophy, and mysticism. However, he carefully avoids engaging in philosophy unless absolutely necessary.

The night, on the other hand, knows him very well in every way.
